Well, niche blogging is exactly what this site is all about: a blog about a very specific subject that does not necessarily have wide spread appeal. And why does it matter what you're blogging about, you may ask?
A blog like this that deals with a subject as specific as push ups, and even more specifically 1000 push ups, does not have the widespread appeal, and therefore visitors, as let's say a blog that talks about how to make money.
Not really a huge deal....unless you're trying to spread your mantra to the internet superhighway. A gentleman by the name of Matt Jones has started "Blogging Fingers," where he deals specifically with the difficult issues of niche blogging and how to attract visitors to your website.
Definitely worth a read!

What is "Niche blogging" anyway, and why should you care?

Intangible benefits of 1000 push ups
What I'm finding out is that I'm starting to develop a solid foundation of strength. Doing push ups consistently is helping build and tone a lot of upper body musculature. While I'm developing those big arms that weight lifters have, I'm starting to feel solid and stable.
And that is one of the not-readily seen benefits of consistent push ups. The most likely reason for this is that push ups work out a lot of your upper body muscles, including your core, all together. The end result is stability and strength. When weight lifting, it's too easy to concentrate on the specific muscle being targeted.
That being said, it definitely takes a lot of consistency. And it helps to have someone else doing them with you for motivation. What better motivation than a wager: on December 21st, a buddy of mine at work and I are going to have a push up contest for the most continuous push ups. The person with the least push ups babysits!! :)
Additional motivation....I love it!

For a (very) good cause...
This award goes to Ryan McCarthy for generously donating to my mac-fund. I thank you heartily.
I must add that he is also the most buffest guy ever, and is my inspiration to doing planche push ups. Ryan's blog speaks of his unique interests in bikes and music. In fact, when you visit his site, "So much love" starts up - which is definitely not your mainstream poppy music. Well done, man, well done.
To you Ryan, here are 25 push ups (you'll have to imagine them for now until I find my camera)!!

1000 push ups for Love
I received news yesterday that our baby may be coming just a bit earlier than we thought. Now, we're really hoping that it's not a lot earlier, maybe only a week or two - hopefully not a whole month! But that got me thinking that I won't be ready to do 1000 push ups when the baby is here since I've been slacking so much.
This thought added additional fuel to the fire, and I have officially restarted my push ups. I came back at Week 7 out 10 on the 100-push up schedule, and let me tell you, it was tough!
I did get it done though. And I'm sticking with it. I have my motivation again.

The Comeback
A coworker remarked to me, "Man, you look like you work out." And I thought to myself - yea, my arms do look good, but are really much less tone than they were before. And it dawned on me - it's because I've stopped doing my push ups regularly.
As in poker, as in life, so in push ups - consistency is key.
So due to a little bit of flattery, I have resumed my push ups. I picked up where I left off - at week 5 in the "100 push up" schedule.
Yeah, baby, YEAH!

Return of the Mac
Gonna get a mac someday!
Sorry Ryan ;).
I am incorporating my push ups into a hunt for a mac book pro! So here's the deal. For a generous donation of 10 cents, I will do 10 push ups, and thank you publicly on my blog - right here, front and center. I will also include a link to your blog or site if you have one. Now THAT'S cheap advertisement!
10 cents for 10 push ups!!

It's a nice day to...
...start again!
I'm renewing my commitment to 1000 push ups, like we're a married couple. "Thousand, love me again. I won't leave you. Let's start again. It's a nice day...for a white wedding."
Completely off the subject...
We've recently moved into a new condo, about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago(weird things come in 2's, n'est ce pas?). So obviously home depot has become our grocery story. However...(I'm just going to vent here for a second)...home depot SUCKS! Yea, I can't believe it, but it does. I'm originally from California where all I know is the depot. But here, the workers there have been abrupt, unfriendly, and entirely unfriendly (except maybe for the paint guy...he was nice). C'mon now!! I'm trying to give you my money!!! Also, they don't have anything I'm looking for, and treat me sub-standard because I'm trying to do things on the cheap by buying them and installing them myself. Really....isn't their slogan "you can do it, we can help?"
Second thing is we ordered a washer and dryer from them - yep, it was a mistake. The guys who came to install it didn't install it properly and I had to call them back to put in the new dryer vent. The washer hot water hose now leaks. We called GE and they sent us the wrong crap. MAN! Doesn't anybody do any quality control these days??
No need to say it, but I will. I'm VERY unsatisfied with them. I wish I could fill out a survey somewhere.
Thank goodness, I found my saving grace - Lowes. Yep - they're awesome. They're friendly, helpful, and when they don't have something, they tell you in a nice way that makes you feel warm and fuzzy all over. They also have saturday clinics for FREE, that teach you things like how to put flooring down, etc...did I mention it was FREE? Today, I purchased a closetmaid completion unit (which the depot didn't have of course), and had a 10% coupon for it. On my way to the counter, I discovered I actually did NOT have the coupon that was tucked so securely in my front pocket with my keys. Arrggghhh...but I went up to the customer service desk, told them the situation, and they GLADLY and WITHOUT HESITATION gave me the 10% off. Now...THAT's service!
I'll tell ya, if I can help it, I'm not shopping at the depot anymore (except maybe to get paint).
Go Lowes!
