I've fallen off the wagon...or is it "I'm on the wagon?" In either case, I have succumbed once again to laziness and have stopped doing push ups for the past week and a half or so. While I have been doing other things that have kept me busy, such as packing, moving, unpacking, driving like crazy, painting, I will accept no excuses for myself. I've definitely noticed more flabbiness and gainage of pounds (about 4) since I've stopped pushing up regularly.
Today, therefore, I am restarting my push ups. I'm continuing with the 100 push up schedule at week 5.

The Perfect Push up
Perusing the internet for all things push ups, I came across many products that help you do push ups. However, I don't want help doing push ups; in fact, I would like to make it harder on myself to do the push up so I can get stronger.
Well, what I found is something called "Perfect Push up," made by Bodyrev. After reading reviews on Amazon, I was convinced it was the very thing I've been searching for. They are handles, not unlike other push up handles, that you use when doing push ups instead of doing the push ups on the ground. What really makes these handles stand out is their rotation. I found that after doing a gangload of push ups, what really was hurting were my wrists, especially on the diamond push ups, so much so that I changed the diamond into a square to alleviate the pressure. But with the Perfect Push up handles (don't I sound like a commmercial), I won't have the pain anymore, and I'll be able to do more push ups.
The other great thing about them from what I've read in the reviews is that they actually make the push up harder, so that when you go back to regular floor push ups, you're able to do much more. I suspect this is because you have more range of motion and can go down further with the handles.
The downside about these handles is that there's a dvd with exercises demonstrating how to use the handles properly that costs an extra 15 dollars. Even though I'd like the dvd, I don't think it would be worth it, as the handles are fairly self-explanatory. Other than this little blip, I think they are a great poduct; I'm very excited to get them. I love new toys!
May your mind have power over your body.
Two cheers to the push up. Here here...

Refocusing
Since the wall has hit me, I almost quit doing push ups altogether. I felt downtrodden. and as a result lost my motivation and focus.
But I have rediscovered my focus with a slight alteration in my goal. Instead of aiming to do one thousand push ups continuously, I plan to do 100 push ups an hour for 10 hours while my wife is in labor. I'm trying to start a new family tradition of doing one thousand push ups on the day of the first-born child. So aiming towards this new goal, I unashamedly stole Iron Dungeon's strategy to 100 push ups in 10 weeks...10 weeks just happens to put me exactly at the day my wife is due! A nice coincidence.
You ask, "how are you going to do 100 push ups 10x when you're just getting to 100 push ups in 10 week?"
That's a very good question. And the answer is - through Hope.

Of note, my brother in law, Stephen, has decided to join me, join US, in our quest! May the force be with you young skywalker.

Tad bit of Excitement
I had some excitement today when I found out the article I wrote for Associated Content, which is a site that pays you for articles, videos, etc., was ranked #1 in a Google search for "one thousand push ups." How friggin' sweet!
It doesn't really have any implications on anything, yet...maybe more people will join the club! Yah baby!
As far as my progress, it has been stinted. With an interstate move, a pregnant wife, licensing exams, graduating paperwork, new-job paperwork, and of course my indecision about how I will proceed past The Wall, I have been slacking. Sad to say really.
I did find a little bit of motivation in the form of "burpees." They're a bit more fun, and way more tiring, than push ups.
May the struggle continue...
